The SMU men’s basketball team won their final game in Moody Coliseum before the venue is closed for renovation.  The Mustangs defeated the Rice Owls 67-55 to even their record at 14-14.

Shawn Williams led the Mustangs with a career-high 17 points.  Williams added 6 rebounds and also tied a career high with 3 blocks.

Nick Russell and Cannen Cunningham each added 13 points for the Mustangs.  Cunningham added 13 rebounds for his 2nd career double-double.  Russell scored 10 or more points for the 14th straight game.

SMU will visit UAB on Saturday before returning home to play UTEP at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

Moody Coliseum, which opened in 1956, is undergoing a $47 million expansion and renovation.  The updated Moody Coliseum (newmoody.com) will feature new premium seating, as well as courtside retractable seating designated for students and renovation of the entry lobby and concourses. Technology improvements will include new video boards, scoreboards, sound system, broadcast capabilities and heating and cooling systems. In addition, office suites, restrooms and locker rooms will be upgraded. The renovation, which began on the north side of the Coliseum in August, will expand into the main building in early March. The building is scheduled to re-open in December 2013, prior to SMU’s first game in the BIG EAST.
