SMU Draws With Houston Baptist

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s soccer team opened exhibition play on Sunday evening at Westcott Field with a 1-1 draw against Houston Baptist.

After a scoreless first half, with chances for both sides, Houston Baptist opened the scoring in the 47th minute with a goal from Ricky-Paul Mupier off an assist from Alex Baez.

SMU was able to even the score in the 60th minute off a 25-yard strike from Abdul Yassine. The teams would trade chances in the closing frame, with the Mustangs holding the edge in shots, but the match finished a draw at the end of regulation.

Michael Nelson, Caleb Underwood and Avery Miller split time in goal for the Mustangs.

SMU continues exhibition play on Wednesday when they host crosstown foe UT Dallas for a 7:30 p.m. CT match up at Westcott Field. Preseason play wraps up on Saturday at home against Incarnate Word at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by the annual Jordan Mann Alumni Match.
