SMU Loses In OT To Houston

A 2nd-half surge led Houston to an 84-80 overtime win over SMU Saturday in front of a season-high crowd of 3,886 at Moody Coliseum.  The Mustangs led 35-18 at the half but Houston kept chipping at the lead until the Cougars finally took the lead with less than 5 minutes in the game.  

SMU forward Shawn Williams sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.  The extra period was all Houston as Jherrod Stiggers scored 6 straight points to lead the Cougars to the win.

The Mustangs had 4 players score in double digits, led by Nick Russell with 22.   Jalen Jones added 21, Ryan Manuel scored 15, and Shawn Williams put up 13 points.  Cannen Cunningham just missed with 9 points.

It is the 7th game this season in which Jones has scored 20 or more points and the 8th straight game where he has scored at least 10.  It is the 5th game of the season to score 20 or more points for Russell, and the 9th straight game in double digits.

Manuel dished out 10 assists to go with his 15 points to give him a double-double.

SMU hosts Memphis on Wednesday at Moody Coliseum.
