SMU Men’s Tennis opens season with win

DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 68 SMU men’s tennis team opened the spring season by defeating UT Pan American 6-1 on Saturday.

Mischa Nowicki paired up with David Costa in doubles as they dispatched Ricardo Hopker and Abdel Riani 8-5. Both Nowicki and Costa earned important points for the Mustangs as they each won their respective singles matches. Nowicki dominated his match, defeating Sebastian Job 6-2, 6-1, while Costa downed Aswin Vijayaragavan 7-5, 6-2.

No. 29 Artem Baradach won his singles event against Beau Bernstein 6-1, 6-2.

Newcomer Gaston Cuadranti picked up his first win at SMU after taking Matt Teivans to three sets 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. Cuadranti and Adham el-Effendi combined to defeat Teivans and Marcus Dornauf 8-6.

Tobias Flood also earned a point for the Mustangs with his 7-5, 6-2 win over Hopker.

The Mustangs head to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend as they compete against UNLV Jan. 29 and Arkansas Jan. 30.
