STILLWATER, Okla. (SMU) — The 47th-ranked SMU women’s tennis team had its seven-match win streak snapped on Friday, falling on the road to No. 12 Oklahoma State, 4-0, at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

SMU (7-1, 2-0 The American) opened the season with seven consecutive victories, but could not overcome a talented Oklahoma State squad that reached the Round of 32 in the NCAA tournament last year.

“I am pleased with our effort and attitude today,” said head coach Kati Gyulai. “I commend the team for stepping up and competing without a full lineup. We didn’t back down, but Oklahoma State was too good today.”

Oklahoma State (9-2, 0-0 Big 12) won the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic defeated Yana Erkeeva and Mary Wright in the No. 2 slot. Maria Alavarez and Carla Tur Mari then clinched the point for the Cowgirls, topping Anna Kate Anderson and Macie Elliott, 6-2 in the No. 3 match.

In singles, Alvarez pushed Oklahoma State’s lead to 2-0, defeating Elliott, 6-2, 6-0, in the No. 6 slot. In the No. 1 match, Anderson fell to Lushkova, the 12th-ranked singles player in the country, 6-3, 6-1. Guttormsen then clinched the match for the Cowgirls, beating Wright, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 4 match.

SMU returns to the court tomorrow, as they take on No. 31 Oklahoma at 12 p.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. Live scoring will be available here.
