Stars Defeat Flames

The Dallas Stars showed their grit as they bounced back from Saturday’s drubbing at the hands of Chicago to defeat the Calgary Flames 4-3 Monday night at the American Airlines Center.

The Stars came out swinging and took a 3-0 lead in the opening period.  Erik Cole opened the action with a wrist shot from a Jordie Benn assist.  Less than 3 minutes later, Eric Nystrom found the net for the first time in 10 games.  Loui Eriksson finished the first period with his 8th goal of the year.

Calgary got into the game with a pair of power play goals in the second period.

Eriksson put the game out of reach for the Stars with his second goal of the night, hitting a deflected Jamie Benn pass into the net.

It comes down to us playing a certain way and discovering an identity and up to this point, we really haven’t done that. I think there were some really good things tonight that shows when we play a certain way, we can be successful but when we stray from it, we’re not very good,” said Nystrum.

Goalkeeper Kari Lehtonen saved 16 of 19 shots for his 10th win of the year.

The Stars return to the ice on Wednesday in Colorado to take on the Avalanche.
