TCU Ousted In Omaha

Designated hitter Will Allen collected three hits and three RBIs, first baseman Sikes Orvis added three hits and two RBIs, and Mississippi topped Texas Christian 6-4 Thursday to stay alive in the College World Series at Omaha, Neb.

The Rebels (48-20) will play Virginia (50-14) on Friday night in a rematch of both teams’ CWS opener, won 2-1 by the Cavaliers. If Virginia wins Friday, it advances to next week’s best-of-three championship series. If Ole Miss wins, the Rebels and Cavaliers would play again Saturday to determine which team reaches the title series.

The Horned Frogs (48-18) dropped their final two games in Omaha after winning their opener.

The Rebels broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the seventh.

Leading off, Ole Miss center fielder Auston Bousfield was hit by a pitch. Third baseman Austin Anderson’s single moved Bousfield to second. Allen singled up the middle to give the Rebels a 5-4 lead.

Allen scored an insurance run in the ninth, when he singled and

came home on Orvis’ double.

TCU jumped on top 3-0 in the third inning, but Ole Miss replied with three runs in the fourth. Both teams added a run in the fifth, with first baseman Kevin Cron hitting a solo homer for the Horned Frogs.

Both starting pitchers, Ole Miss’ Sam Smith and TCU’s Tyler Alexander, gave up three runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Josh Laxer got the win despite allowing Kron’s homer. Aaron Greenwood retired the final four batters in order for the save.
