Defending co-champion TCU was picked as the favorite to win the Big 12, according to a media poll.

Baylor, last season’s other co-champion, was picked second, followed by Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas.

The Horned Frogs, 12-1 a year ago but left out of the College Football Playoff, return 18 starters, including preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Trevone Boykin at quarterback. Boykin is one of 10 returning starters on offense.

The Frogs finished sixth in the final CFP rankings and hammered No. 9 Mississippi 42-3 in the Peach Bowl. In light of that victory, TCU finished No. 3 in the final AP and Coaches’ poll.

TCU, which likely will begin the season a consensus Top-5 team in the preseason polls, will be entering its fourth season in the Big 12. In 2013, TCU was 4-8.

“For me, it’s about standing in between the lines, not getting too high or too low, either way,” Patterson said. “So a year ago, you had to prove people wrong. This year, you have to prove people right.”
