Tennis Action Continues In Irving

IRVING, TX Tim Smyczek is the lone American remaining in the singles draw of the 2015 Irving Tennis Classic after Denis Kudla’s loss on Thursday. Smyczek defeated 5th seeded Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 to move into the quarterfinal round. Smyczek claimed his fourth ATP Challenger Tour title earlier this year in Dallas in February at the RBC Tennis Championships at T Bar M Racquet Club.
The evening’s featured match paired Alexander Zverev (GER) against 6th seed Jerzy Janowicz (POL). Zverev prevailed in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(2). Zverev started strong and had a 3-0 lead before having his service broken. Janowicz had service problems the entire first set, only registering 44% first serves in and only winning 37% of those points. Overall, Zverev bested Janowicz in aces (7 to 3) , double faults (2 to 5), and break points won (3/6 to 1/6).
