Rangers Lose Season Opener

For the first time in 5 years, the Texas Rangers lost the first game of the season, falling at Houston 8-2 in the Astro’s American League debut.
Starting pitcher Matt Harrison gave up 6 runs in 5 2/3 innings in the loss. Harrison struck out a career-high 9 batters. Houston starter Bud Norris also went 5 2/3 innings, giving up just 2 runs.
Lance Berkman and Nelson Cruz provided most of the Rangers offense, combining for 4 of the 6 Texas hits. David Murphy added an RBI single.
The Rangers have lost 5 straight season openers when on the road, they have been at home the last 4 years.
Game 2 between the two AL West rivals will be Tuesday night in Houston.
