Dallas resident Mac Meissner fired a 31 on his front nine en route to a 67 on Saturday at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Fort Worth, TX.
“There was a lot of positives. I like how I drove it on the front nine, I gave myself a lot of opportunities, a lot of birdie opportunities,” Meissner said. “On the holes where I did miss the greens I gave myself pretty easy up-and-down, which is kind of important out here. Yeah, the goal tomorrow for sure will just be to try and get the ball in the fairway a little bit more. It’s difficult out here, a lot of the times it’s really difficult to commit to the shots that you’re trying to hit with the crosswind that you have. So that will be really important tomorrow.”
While Meissner lives in Dallas, his wife is from Fort Worth, so he has been staying with them this week while cheering on the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA playoffs.
“It’s been so much fun staying with my wife’s parents and Matt McCarty and his caddie have been staying with us too. So we’ve had a fun week,” Meissner said. “Off the course I’ve been focused on my Spurs, it’s been a lot of fun, it’s been great to take my mind off of golf and yell at the TV a little bit. So, big game tonight, so I think that will be helpful to get my mind off of golf a little bit tonight.”
Meissner, who played on the 2021 U.S. Walker Cup team, is set to play in the final group alongside Eric Cole and Ryan Gerard on Sunday at 11:55 am.
