Cantlay and Schauffele Commit To WGC-Dell Match Play

AUSTIN, Texas – World No. 4 Patrick Cantlay and World No. 6 Xander Schauffele are the latest players to commit to the 2023 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, returning to Austin Country Club, March 22-26.

Cantlay, an eight-time PGA TOUR winner, returns for his fifth appearance but in search of his first trip to the Round of 16. In 2021, he recorded a 2-1 record before falling in a Group Play playoff to Brian Harman on the second extra hole. . Cantlay still holds a respectable 6-4-2 overall record at Austin Country Club, with the 2021 FedExCup Champion in search of his first win on TOUR since the 2022 BMW Championship. In five starts during the  2022-23 PGA TOUR Season, Cantlay’s most notable finishes include a T2 at the Shriners Children’s Open and a solo third at The Genesis Invitational.

Schauffele is also set for his fifth start at in Austin, where he holds a 5-4-3 record with his sights set on bettering a 2-1 Group Play showing in 2018. So far this season, the seven-time PGA TOUR winner has made six starts, placing in the top-10 in three instances, including a T3 at The American Express.

“I love playing match play and I really enjoy the city of Austin,” said Schauffele in 2022. “Haven’t really had a lot of success and always look forward to the opportunity to change that. Your fate is always in your own hands.”

 

Together, Cantlay and Schauffele have proven a formidable duo in team events on TOUR. In their two previous Presidents Cup appearances in 2019 and 2022, the duo was paired together in each of their Foursomes and Four-ball matches, holding overall records of 6-3-0.

 

In addition to their Presidents Cup triumphs, Cantlay and Schauffele also won the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the PGA TOUR’s only regular-season team event, in wire-to-wire fasion. The pair holds the tournament record of 29-under 259.
