Cooper Flagg Named Western Conference Rookie of the Month

The NBA announced today that Dallas Mavericks forward/guard Cooper Flagg was named the Kia Western Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in the month of December, garnering the award for the second straight month while becoming the third Maverick to earn consecutive Rookie of the Month honors.

Flagg (6-9, 205) averaged 23.5 points (.516 FG%, .808 FT%), 6.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.2 blocks in 35.6 minutes per game through 13 appearances (all starts) in December. He totaled 306 points, 80 rebounds, 63 assist, 13 steals and 15 blocks, joining Blake Griffin, LeBron James, Ron Harper and Larry Bird as the only rookies in NBA history to record 30-75-50-10-10 in the month of December.

Flagg tallied a career-high 42 points to go along with seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and two blocks at Utah on Dec. 15, becoming the youngest player in NBA history (18 years, 359 days) to post a 40-point game while tying Mark Aguirre’s Mavericks rookie record for points in a game.

Flagg also joined Kevin Durant as one of two rookies in league history to record such a stat line in a game (since steals and blocks were officially tracked in 1973-74).

In the game following his 42-point performance, Flagg recorded 23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks against the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 18, marking the first time a rookie totaled at least 65 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and five blocks in a two-game span since David Robinson in 1989-90.

On Christmas Day, Flagg notched 27 points, six rebounds, five assists against the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first rookie since Pete Maravich (12/25/70) to record 25 points, five rebounds and five assists on Christmas Day, while joining Maravich and Oscar Robertson (12/25/60) as the only rookies to do so on Christmas.

Flagg also joined LeBron James and Luka Dončić as the only teenagers in NBA history to record 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in three consecutive games (12/23/25-12/27/25). He became one of eight rookies to record at least five games with 20-5-5 in December, with only Robertson, Alvan Adams, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar having more such games, and he joined Dončić as the only teenagers to have five such games in December.

Drafted with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Duke, Flagg currently ranks first among rookies in total points (652), second in total rebounds (218), second in total assists (139), second in total steals (41) and third in total blocks (27).

He is the only rookie this season to place top three in each of the five major categories. Across the league, Flagg has the fifth-most points in the clutch with 70 points on 21-of-44 shooting (.477 FG%).
