HOUSTON, TEXAS – Michael Barrios scored his fifth goal in as many matches to lead FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo in Leg Two of the Texas Derby at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Derby concludes with the first match between the clubs at Toyota Stadium this season on Saturday, Sept. 1.

FC Dallas nearly found the back of the net in the 34th minute, when Dominique Badji accepted a pass on the left side of the area and floated a cross to Tesho Akindele at the back post. Akindele rose above his marker to win the header but Houston left back DeMarcus Beasley deflected the close-range shot and the ball ended up rolling easily into the arms of Dynamo goalkeeper Joe Willis.

Houston countered just before halftime when Mauro Manotas brought down a pass in the box, feinted to his left and knocked a shot pass to Tomás Martínez in the center of the area. Houston’s No. 10 tried to beat FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer, low to his left side but the first-touch shot skipped wide of the post.

Michael Barrios put Tesho in on goal with a back-heel pass in the 60th minute. Akindele sprinted into the area and attempted to pick out second-half substitute Maxi Urruti, but a Dynamo defender stepped in to deflect the pass off its mark.

Albeth Elis came free down the right side for Houston in the 65th minute. The forward tried to pick out Manotas at the back post but FC Dallas right back Reggie Cannon recovered just in time to head the ball away from danger.

The back-and-forth action continued in the 68th minute, when Pablo Aranguiz put Urruti in on goal with a short pass in the center of the pitch. Urruti tried to beat Willis high to his left side but the goalkeeper went up high and deflected the shot wide of the post to keep the match scoreless.

Barrios found the game’s first goal with his fifth in as many games in the 83rd minute. The winger beat Dynamo defender Andrew Wenger in a race to a ball just outside the Houston 18-yard box and quickly fired a shot past Willis on the right side.

For the second straight match, the home side would answer just minutes later. In the 88th minute, Ronaldo Peña spun away from Matt Hedges at the top of the box before sending a left-footed shot between Maurer and the near side post to level the game, 1-1.
