FC Dallas Wins Home Opener

Maximiliano Urruti scored two goals in six minutes during the second half to lift unflappable FC Dallas to a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
Urruti’s two goals allowed FC Dallas (2-0-1), last year’s Supporters’ Shield winner, to remain undefeated and marked its second two-goal, second-half comeback in the past week.
On Wednesday, FC Dallas came from behind in the final minutes to beat Mexican powerhouse Pachuca in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series.
On Saturday, Lee Nguyen got the Revolution on the board in the 10th minute on a penalty kick after New England’s Antonio Mlinar Delamea was pulled down by FC Dallas’ Cristian Colman.
Nguyen, who was born in the Dallas suburb of McKinney, sent FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz the wrong way and coolly dispatched the penalty low to the right side. It was New England’s first goal of the season.
FC Dallas outshot New England 6-3 in the first half, but the Revolution put two shots on goal to none for the home team. Dallas owned a 64.6 percent to 35.4 percent advantage in time of possession, had 237 passes to New England’s 121 and had six corner kicks to the Revolution’s three.
FC Dallas was playing its third match in eight days, and it took the players a while to find their legs.
Urruti tied the match in the 71st minute when he booted home a rebound of a shot by Michael Barrios. New England goalkeeper Cody Cropper came way off his line to corral the shot, but failed.
Urruti scored the winner in the 77th minute, with an unstoppable shot high and to the near post from a tight angle. Urruti took the ball away from New England’s Benjamin Angoua before turning toward the goal and surprising Cropper with a quick shot.
The Revolution (0-2-0) had two weeks to prepare for FC Dallas after their Week 2 meeting with Orlando City was postponed due to weather. New England had not played since a season-opening 1-0 loss at Colorado on March 4.
