Fjortoft Wins Her Fourth Consecutive Meet

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (SMU) – Silje Fjortoft took the gold medal for the fourth time this season at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday. She beat 295 other runners and posted a personal best time of 19:44.2 to win the race.

“She looked strong and relaxed the whole way. Her race today clearly puts her as one of the top women in the nation” said SMU cross country coach Cathy Casey.

As a team, the Mustangs placed sixth out of 34 teams in the 6k race. Senior Kristine Eikrem-Engeset placed 14th and also finished with a personal-best time of 20:54.3. Monika Korra was a top-50 finisher (40th) with a time of 21:37.9. Additionally, Aasha Marietta (22:14.2), Kajsa Barr (22:29.5) and Caitlin Keen (23:14.2) all placed in the top half of the competition.

The Ponies will be back in action Oct. 31 for the Conference USA Championships in Houston, Texas.
