Godbolt Scores 1,000 Career Point In UNT Loss
DENTON, Texas (2/2/12) – Jasmine Godbolt scored her 1,000 career point, but the North Texas women’s basketball team came up just short against Middle Tennessee, falling 70-68, on Thursday night at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green falls to 13-10 and 6-4 in the conference, while Middle Tennessee improves to 17-5 and 9-0 in the Sun Belt. The Blue Raiders lead the series, 11-7.
Godbolt became the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 points in her career. She came into the game needing five points and finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sara Stanley led the Mean Green with a career-high 14 points. She was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight rebounds.
The Mean Green held the lead against MT for a good part of the game and led by as many nine points in the first half. North Texas held a two-point advantage with under four minutes to play in the game, but the Blue Raiders made two key layups and made free throws down the stretch to steal the win.
Stanley led four players in double-figures. Laura McCoy scored 13 points, including four three-pointers. Brittney Hudson scored 12 points and forced four steals.
After entering half with the lead, North Texas kept up the high-energy play in the second half. McCoy hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game to keep the Mean Green ahead, 47-40, at 16:12. MT responded with a 12-1 run to retake the lead, 52-48, at 12:42.
Stanley hit her first career three-pointer to put North Texas ahead, 63-61, with 3:29 left in the game. After Middle Tennessee regained the lead, Brittney Hudson made two driving lay-ups to keep North Texas within
one point of the lead twice. With 24 seconds left, North Texas was forced to foul and the Blue Raiders made 2-of-4 to seal the win.
North Texas went on an 11-0 run midway through the first half to take a 17-13 advantage at 8:41. McCoy scored nine of those points with three 3-pointers. Following a Middle Tennessee free throw, Desiree Nelson hit a short jumper to keep the lead at five points, 19-14, at 8:05. Kasondra Foreman hit two free throws to give North Texas its largest lead of the game, 26-17, at 5:36.
Starting with McCoy’s first 3-pointer at 12:46, North Texas went on a 31-18 run into half. Despite a fierce comeback by the Blue Raiders, North Texas entered half ahead, 35-31.
The Mean Green capitalized on 23 Blue Raiders turnovers, scoring 25 points.

North Texas held the edge in rebounds, 37-31. The Mean Green has now outrebounded its opponents 20 times.
North Texas returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 9 when it faces FIU on the road at 3:30 p.m.
