Godfrey Powers 3-Set UNT Sweep Of Rival SFA

DENTON, Texas – Thanks to 12 kills, eight digs and four blocks – all team-highs – from freshman Eboni Godfrey the North Texas volleyball team recorded its first ever three-set sweep of rival Stephen F. Austin (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) on Monday afternoon.

The Ladyjacks (6-3) had trouble getting out of their own way against the Mean Green (4-4), committing 42 total errors – including 23 attack errors – in the three sets. North Texas has now won two of the last three meetings with SFA in a rivalry that dates back to the founding of the program in 1976.

Aside from the errors, the Mean Green attack of Godfrey and Melanie Boykins proved too much. Boykins, a senior, landed nine kills on .368 hitting on top of Godfrey’s dozen to carry an NT attack that hit .191 on the match.

Addason Lamb tallied her second and third aces of the season, while Hallie McDonald and Kendall Whitson added an ace apiece.

North Texas is now 3-1 on the season against Southland Conference opponents, and will face two more from the SLC in non-conference action this year. North Texas now heads down to the Islander Classic to face the Southland’s Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as well as Towson and UT-Pan American, next weekend.
