Luka Dončić Named Western Conference Player of the Week

The NBA announced today that Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Dončić was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Feb. 5 through Sunday, Feb. 11. It marks the second time this season (Dec. 18) and the 11th time in his career that he has received the honor.

Dončić (6-7, 230) led the Mavericks to a 4-0 week with averages of 31.3 points (.513 FG%, .442 3FG%), 10.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 37.5 minutes per game.

After helping Jason Kidd record his 300th career win with the team’s 118-102 victory at Philadelphia on Feb. 5, Dončić tallied 35 points (13-27 FG, 4-11 3FG), a season-high-tying 18 rebounds, nine assists, two steals, one block and just one turnover in 43 minutes in the Mavericks’ 119-107 win at Brooklyn on Feb. 6. He became the first player in NBA history to produce at least 35 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists with one-or-fewer turnovers.

The 24-year-old helped the Mavericks sweep their three-game road trip after posting a game-high 39 points (13-24 FG, 7-14 3FG, 6-7 FT) to go along with a team-high eight rebounds, a team-high 11 assists, a game-high four steals and one block in 40 minutes in Dallas’ 122-108 victory at New York on Feb. 8.

Dončić capped off the week by registering a game-high 32 points (9-14 FG, 4-8 3FG, 10-13 FT) to go along with eight rebounds and a game-high nine assists in 31 minutes in the club’s 146-111 victory over Oklahoma City on Feb. 10.

The 6-7 Slovenian, who is set to make his fifth All-Star appearance (fourth start) in Indianapolis later this week, is averaging a league-high 34.5 points, a team-high 8.8 rebounds (18th in the NBA), a team-high 9.1 assists (third in the NBA), a team-high 1.4 steals (eighth in the NBA) and a league-high 37.6 minutes in 45 games (all starts) this season. Dončić leads the NBA in 35-point games (21) and 40-point efforts (10). He also leads the league in 30-point triple-doubles (8), 35-point triple-doubles (5) and 40-point triple-doubles (2).

Dončić’s 11 career Player of the Week awards have all come since 2019-20, the most by any Western Conference player over the past five seasons and second-most by any player overall during that stretch (Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo has earned 14). Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki (16) is the only Maverick to garner the award more times.
