Luka Dončić Named Western Conference Player of the Week

The NBA announced today that Mavericks guard Luka Dončić was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, March 4 through Sunday, March 10. It marks the third time this season (Dec. 11 to Dec. 17, Feb. 5 to Feb. 11) and the 12th time in his career that he has received the honor.

Dončić (6-7, 230) led the Mavericks to a 2-1 week with averages of 37.7 points (.513 FG%, .385 3FG%, .900 FT%), 10.3 rebounds, 10.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 39.6 minutes per game.

The five-time All-Star posted a 35-point triple-double in all three games during the week, setting a new NBA record for the most consecutive 30-point triple-doubles (6) while extending his own record streak for the most consecutive 35-point triple-doubles (5).

After going for 39 points (15-30 FG), 10 rebounds and 11 assists in 43 minutes against Indiana on March 5, Dončić tallied 35 points (12-24 FG, 7-13 3FG, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds and 11 assists in 40 minutes in the Mavericks’ 114-108 win over Miami on March 7. He capped off the week by racking up 39 points (13-24 FG, 9-10 FT), 10 rebounds, 10 assists, three steals and two blocks in 37 minutes in the team’s 142-124 win at Detroit on March 9, joining Michael Jordan as the only players in league history to record such a stat line in a regulation-length game. He also recorded his sixth consecutive 30-point triple-double against the Pistons, surpassing the previous best streak (5) held by Russell Westbrook.

The 6-7 Slovenian, who recently celebrated his 25th birthday, is leading the NBA in scoring (34.7 ppg) this season and would become the first Maverick in franchise history to win the scoring title. Dončić also leads the NBA in 30-point triple-doubles (14), 35-point games (28), 35-point triple-doubles (10), 40-point efforts (12) and 40-point triple-doubles (2).

Dončić, who is the reigning Western Conference Player of the Month as well, is also riding a streak of seven straight 30-point, 10-assist games, which is tied with Oscar Robertson and Trae Young for the longest such run in league history.

Dončić’s 12 career Player of the Week awards have all come since 2019-20, the most by any Western Conference player over the past five seasons and second-most by any player overall during that stretch (Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo has earned 14). Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki (16) is the only Maverick to garner the award more times.
