Maryland Named ACC Receiver of the Week
|CHARLOTTE, N.C. (SMU) — SMU tight end RJ Maryland was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Receiver of the Week in a release by the conference on Monday.
This is the first career weekly honor for Maryland as a Mustang while also becoming the first SMU student-athlete to receive a weekly award from the conference.
Maryland played a pivotal role in SMU’s 29-24 comeback win over Nevada. The play-making tight end hauled in eight receptions for 162 yards, both career highs, including the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
The Southlake native’s touchdown brought his career total up to 14, which tied the SMU record for career receiving touchdowns by a tight end.
Maryland’s 162 receiving yards were the most in a single game since former Mustang Rashee Rice had 180 against Tulsa in 2022.
Prior to the start of the year, Maryland was placed on the Mackey Award Watch List and earned College Football Network Preseason All-America honors.
