Mean Green Tennis Nabs Two Crowns At Sooner Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – Two flight championships capped Mean Green tennis’ final day at the Sooner Invitational on Sunday from the Headington Family Tennis Center.

Freshman Franziska Sprinkemeyer and sophomore Barbora Vykydalova took home the “C” flight doubles championship over a duo from Sun Belt rival UALR in an 8-5 match.

“We could not have asked for a better first tournament,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “What we saw is a group that prepares well, gives tremendous effort and competes hard. The two freshmen were part of singles and doubles championship. They both had an outstanding tournament and have a very bright future ahead of them.”

Senior Paula Dinuta and freshman Ksenyia Bardabush shared the “C” flight singles championship after the tournament reformatted Sunday morning so that teammates did not play each other.

Both Dinuta and Bardabush won their matches on Sunday and finished the singles competition undefeated.

In other doubles action, transfer Valentina Starkova and Nadia Lee saved two match points in a match against a Texas Tech team to win their match and the consolation doubles championships in flight “A”.

The Mean Green will return to action on October 8 at the USTA Invitational in Flushing, New York.
