Moore And Kennedy Named All-Conference

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – Sophomores Nic Moore and Markus Kennedy represented No. 25/23 SMU on the All-American Athletic Conference teams, the league announced on Tuesday. Moore, an eight-time weekly conference honor roll selectee, led the Mustangs in scoring and assists. Kennedy, a four-time honor roll selection, led the team in rebounding, blocked shots and steals.

Moore averaged 13.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 31 games. In conference play, Moore averaged 14.2 points and 4.7 assists. Moore started all 31 games, recording six 20-point games in the regular season, and finished in double figures 26 times. The Winona Lake, Ind., native also recorded his second career double-double this season, netting 14 points to go along with 10 assists in an 87-72 win over then-No. 22/22 Memphis.

Kennedy played in all 31 games, starting 16, averaging 12.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.4 blocks. In conference play, he averaged 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds. The Philadelphia, Pa., native scored in double figures 22 times in the regular season, and led SMU in scoring and rebounding in the same

game 10 times. Kennedy scored in double figures in 14-straight games from Dec. 4-Feb.1, SMU’s longest streak of the season, and recorded five double-doubles in that stretch.

They have helped lead the Mustangs to their first national ranking since the 1984-85 season, and have defeated four ranked opponents for the first time since the 1955-56 season. SMU has also won 23 games for the first time since the 1987-88 season, and has totaled 12 conference victories for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The Mustangs were 15-1 at home this season, including a 9-1 record in-front of seven sellout crowns at the renovated Moody Coliseum.

SMU (23-8, 12-6 American) will open its American Athletic Conference Tournament against sixth-seeded Houston (16-15, 8-10) in the quarterfinals at the FedExForum in Memphis on Thursday at 12 p.m. CT on ESPNU. SMU swept the season series against the Cougars. The Mustangs earned the three seed in the tournament, their best conference finish since finishing third in the 2002-03 Western Athletic Conference standings.
