Moore Named AAC Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (The American/SMU) – SMU junior Nic Moore was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Moore averaged 23.0 points, 6.5 assists and shot 57.9 from behind the arc (11-for-19) in two wins last week. Moore tied the SMU and conference record with eight three-pointers (8 of 11) in the win over Houston on Saturday.

In SMU’s 66-52 win at Tulane, Moore had game highs of 18 points and seven assists. Moore then tied his career-high of 28 points (8-11 3FG, 4-4 FT) along with six assists in the 80-59 win over Houston. This is Moore’s first AAC Player of the Week honor. He has been on The American’s Weekly Honor Roll 12 times, including four this season. This is the second Player of the Week honor for SMU, senior Yanick Moreira earned the accolade on Dec. 22.

The Mustangs (16-4, 7-1) have won 14 of their last 15 games, including six straight. SMU travels to USF (7-13, 1-6) on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT game (ESPNU). The Mustangs have won three straight road conference games. SMU is a half-game out of first place (Tulsa 14-5, 7-0) and is receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls.
