North Texas Women Down UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas – The North Texas women’s hoops team snapped a two-game losing streak on the road against regional adversary UTA, 70-55.

The win was the first for the Mean Green on the road this season.

“In the first half, we got outside of our rules too much,” head coach Mike Petersen said. “In the second half, we still wanted to play hard and utilize the press, we just needed to stay in front of them better, which we did.”

Despite the slow start, the Mean Green finished the first half with a narrow three-point lead that it gained late.

Sophomore Acheil Tac was the catalyst early with nine first-half points and six rebounds, while senior guard Hannah Christian knocked in a buzzer-beater to close out the first half.

Freshman point guard Candice Adams found her range early, knocking down two deep balls and scoring all of her eight points in the first half.

The Mean Green extended its lead slowly throughout the second frame.

Behind four double-digit scoring performances, North Texas pieced together a team win against a winless UTA team.

Along with Tac, fellow sophomore Alexis Hyder knocked down 12 points and added eight boards.

Junior forward Briesha Wynn scored a career-high 18 points along with eight rebounds. She also went 6-6 at the charity stripe.

Senior guard Laura McCoy was the fourth double-digit scorer for North Texas. She knocked down a season-high three 3-pointers.

North Texas gets a lengthy break for finals before hitting the court in the Mile High State against Northern Colorado on Dec. 15 at 3 p.m CST.
