Russell Named All-Tournament At Hoops For Hope Classic

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (SMU) – Junior guard Nick Russell received Hoops For Hope Classic All-Tournament honors on Sunday night, just hours after hitting the biggest shot during SMU’s first seven games.
Russell hit the game-winning jumper with 10 seconds remaining in the Mustangs’ 62-61 victory over Missouri State on Sunday night. The junior tied a career high with 25 points in the contest on 9-of-15 shooting in 38 minutes. For the tournament, Russell averaged 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists, and guided SMU to a 3-1 record over the four-game event.
Russell has been a key part of SMU’s 7-1 start to the 2012-13 season, leading the team in scoring (16.0) and assists (3.9). SMU is off to its best start since opening the 2006-07 campaign at 10-1.
