DALLAS (SMU) – Akil Simpson posted career-highs with 22 points and 12 rebounds Saturday night to lead SMU, but it wasn’t enough as Fresno State connected on 11-of-22 3-point shots to win the championship of the SMU Hoops for the Cure Tournament 88-67 in Moody Coliseum.

The Mustangs (4-2) shot 40.3-percent from the field, but the Bulldogs (4-2) connected on 51.7-percent of their shots. SMU was out-scored just 49-47 in the second half, but the Bulldogs hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to build their lead.

Samantha Mahnesmith finished the game with nine points, and Sabrina McKinney and Alisha Filmore each added eight for SMU. McKinney, a junior transfer, is averaging 10.0 points over the last two games.

For everything the Mustangs drew up, Ki-Ki Moore had an answer, finishing with a tournament-high 28 points, garnering MVP honors. She was 10-of-13 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

The Mustangs travel to Kansas for their next two games, taking on the Jayhawks in Lawrence on Dec. 1 and Wichita State in Wichita on Dec. 3, before returning home to face Northwestern State on Dec. 5.
