SMU Cross Country Wins Gold at North Texas Season Opener

DENTON (SMU) – In its first meet of the season, the SMU cross country team took home a first place finish at the North Texas Invitational Thursday night. The team scored a total of 36 points, placing them three points higher than the runner-up, TCU (39). TWU (67) was third, host North Texas (89) took fourth, and DBU finished fifth (121).

The Mustangs had two runners finish in the top three, with Silje Fjortoft winning the meet with a time of 13:16 and Kristine Eikrem-Engeset taking third (14:09). Monika Korra (5th) and Aasha Marietta (9th) also finished in the top 10 for SMU.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10, to compete in the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
