SMU Defeats Houston

DALLAS (AP) — Nic Moore hit 8 of 11 shots, all 3-pointers, and scored 28 points to lead [RV/RV] SMU to an 80-59 win over Houston on Saturday.

Behind Moore, who was 6 of 7, the Mustangs (16-4, 7-1 American Athletic Conference) made 15 of 24 shots in the second half and finished at 52 percent to win their sixth-straight. SMU made 11 of 20 3s.

Yanick Moreira added 14 points and Sterling Brown had 11. Ben Moore grabbed 10 rebounds as SMU had a 43-24 advantage on the boards.

Houston (7-12, 0-8), which lost its eighth straight, got 25 points from Jherrod Stiggers. L.J. Rose had 10 assists for the fourth time in his career.

The Mustangs only shot 43 percent in the first half but won the boards 26-12 and made 11 free throws to lead 37-29. Moore’s eight 3-pointers tied a school record for most long bombs made in a game.

SMU is back in action Wednesday, Jan. 28 when the Mustangs travel to Tampa, Fla. to take on USF. Tip-off for Wednesday’s contest is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on ESPNU with live video available at WatchESPN.com.
