SMU Equestrian Defeats Delaware State, 6-4

DOVER, Del. (SMU) – The SMU equestrian team defeated Delaware State, 6-4, Saturday morning at Gambler’s Choice Equestrian Center. Freshman Emma Roberts earned MVP honors over fences. The final raw score was SMU 872, DSU 760. With the win, the Mustangs are now 4-1 on the season.

“Today was another good day for us on the road,” head coach Haley Schoolfield said. “Emma Roberts got her first MVP, and we had some outstanding rides today that we, as coaches, are very proud of. We have a few minor things to polish up before tomorrow at Sacred Heart tomorrow, but we are very pleased by our team’s showing this trip.”

SMU turned in a strong showing over fences, going 4-1, as Roberts picked up MVP honors with an 85-80 win. The MVP honor was her first of the season, and the freshman now holds a 4-0 mark on the year. All-American Jordyn Pettersen picked up a 79-72 win for the Mustangs. Also earning points for SMU were sophomores Julianna Fischer, with a score of 79, and Lauren Hogan, with a 76.

Delta State edged the Mustangs, 3-2, on the flat. Fischer earned her second point of the day with her 87-70 decision. Freshman Courtney Line also earned an 82-73 win.

SMU closes out its road trip tomorrow at Sacred Heart’s River’s Edge Farm at 8:30 a.m.
