SMU Equestrian Tops Delaware State, 8-4

DALLAS (SMU) — The SMU equestrian team defeated Delaware State, 8-4, today at BuckBranch Farm. “Overall, I am so proud of every member of our squad, SMU head coach Haley Schoolfield said. “Today they pulled together and worked cohesively as a team.”

The Mustangs were led by Jordyn Pettersen, who remains undefeated with a 7-0 this season. The junior earned her fourth MVP honors with a score of 78 over fences.

“Jordyn and Ramsay Hanson both had re-rides and handled them beautifully,” said Schoolfield about her team’s 4-2 win over fences.

On the flat, Renick Townsend earned the MVP nod with a score of 83. Morgan Toal, Claire Wenholz and Danielle Gersh all each tallied victories as the Mustangs won by the score of 8-2.

“A very special thank you to Alessandra Shultz who let us use her horse, Indy, when we were in a pinch,” a grateful Schoolfield said.

The Mustangs next home competition is Feb. 12 against Fresno State.
