SMU Falls 62-56 At Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Dominique Morrison scored 30 points Monday night as Oral Roberts won its third straight game with a 62-56 victory over SMU in a consolation round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. SMU fell behind 30-13 in the first half, then rallied to tie the game at 45-45 on a Robert Nyakundi 3-pointer with 7:39 to go. SMU was within 49-48 with 4:47 remaining, but never took the lead.
Morrison sank 10 of 16 shots, including three 3-pointers, and went 7 of 10 at the line for the Golden Eagles (3-2). Steven Roundtree added 11 points, and Michael Craion had nine rebounds.
Robert Nyakundi paced the Mustangs (2-3) with 16 points. London Giles and Jalen Jones scored 12 apiece, and Jeremiah Samarrippas had 11.
Morrison’s jump shot gave the Golden Eagles their largest lead at 30-13 with 1:16 to go before halftime.
But the Mustangs pared the gap to single figures at 32-34 on Nyakundi’s 3-pointer with 17:18 left. They tied the game at 45-45 and got within one four other times, the last at 49-48 with 4:47 remaining, but never took the lead.
SMU is back in action Tuesday night (Nov. 22) when they take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Tulsa at the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
