The SMU Mustangs dropped to 6-5 after a 37-7 loss to unbeaten Houston.  SMU has lost 4 of the last 5 games after starting the season 5-1.

The Mustangs were playing without star running back Zach Line, who is out for the season with a toe injury.  Line was leading C-USA in rushing and has topped the 100-yard mark in eight of 10 games in 2011. The junior back is one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award.

Without Line, the Mustangs could only muster 24 yards rushing on 26 attempts.  By contrast, Houston gained 148 on the ground.

SMU quarterback J.J, McDermott was 23 of 40 passing for 239 yards with a TD and an interception.  Der’rick Thompson led the Mustang receivers with 7 catches for 64 yards. Cole Beasley added 6 receptions for 84 yards.  Darius Johnson caught 5 passes for 56 yards and the Mustangs only score.

SMU closes out the regular season at home next week versus Rice.
