SMU Falls To Southern Miss

The 5-game winning streak ended for the SMU Mustangs Saturday night in Hattiesburg with a 27-3 loss to the USM Golden Eagles.

Running back Zach Line rushed for a season-high 163 yards on 22 carries in the loss.  It was his 5th 100-yard game of the season.  Receiver Cole Beasely had 7 receptions for 96 yards.

Quarterback J.J. McDermott suffered his first loss as a starter.  After 3 straight 300-yard games, McDermott was held to 173 yards passing on 16 of 32 attempts with 2 interceptions.

SMU was unable to stop Southern Miss, who converted 8 of 14 third downs and 1 of 1 fourth down.  The Golden Eagles totaled 453 offensive yards.

SMU travels to Tulsa next Saturday for another C-USA matchup.
