SMU Falls To UTEP

GARLAND, Texas (AP) — Julian Washburn had 20 points and eight rebounds as UTEP closed out the regular season with a 76-63 victory over SMU on Saturday.

The Miners (17-13, 10-6 Conference USA), who shot 59 percent from the field and were 9 of 19 beyond the arc, also got 13 points from C.J. Cooper, 12 from Cedrick Lang and 11 from McKenzie Moore. Jacques Streeter added 10 assists.

Cannen Cunningham scored 15 points, Ryan Manuel had 14 and Nick Russell 10 for SMU (15-16, 5-11), which lost to UTEP for the second time this season.

The game was played at Curtis Culwell Center due to a $47 million renovation and expansion project that has begun on Moody Coliseum.

SMU will now travel to Tulsa, Okla. to take part in the Conference USA Championship, Mar. 13-16. Ticket can be purchased online by clicking here. UTEP will carry the No. 3 seed into the C-USA tournament, while SMU will be seeded 10th.
