SMU Golf Takes 3rd In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (SMU) – The No. 17 SMU Mustangs held firm during the final round at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday, shooting a team round of five-under par en route to a third place finish. Three Mustangs finished in the top 12.

Freshman Bryson Dechambeau finished the final round at two-under, placing him in a tie for eighth. Today’s solid round came after his spectacular seven-birdie performance from yesterday. Senior Mario Clemens also finished at two-under for the day, completing a three days of under-par play for a five-under finish for the UCLA transfer. Austin Smotherman finished tied for 12th at four-under par.

No. 5 Alabama won the event, followed by Oklahoma. SMU placed third, ahead of No. 11 Georgia and No. 10 Georgia Tech, who rounded out the top five.

Of the 15 teams in the Puerto Rico Classic field, 14 are ranked in the top 100 according the GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings.
