DES MOINES, Iowa (SMU) – Simone Du Toit earned All-America honors for the second time, finishing fourth in the discus at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Drake University.

The junior was outside the top five before her final throw of the competition, but posted a 56.83 to climb to fourth. du Toit missed the podium by less than a meter. The junior also earned All-America as a sophomore in 2010, finishing sixth in the discus.

“I am so proud of Simone for her fourth place finish in one of the best discus finals I have seen in a very long time,” head coach Dave Wollman said. “She had to pull it off on her last throw, which is a pressure packed moment. This is an end result of an athlete seeking excellence through hard work and great focus!”

du Toit nearly scored more points for SMU in the shot put, finishing ninth with a throw of 16.46 meters. She was just three-tenths from earning her second All-America honor this season.
