The SMU Mustangs’ hopes for a 4th straight bowl bid took a huge blow Saturday when the Tulane Green Wave defeated the Mustangs 27-26.

SMU overcame a 20-6 halftime deficit to take a 26-20 lead late in the 4th quarter.  Tulane then mounted their only successful drive of the 2nd half, a 68-yard, 5 play, drive for a touchdown that only took 47 seconds.

Down by 1, the SMU offense stalled to end the game.

Running back Zach Line had a season-high 177 rushing yards on 28 carries.  It is Line’s 18th 100-yard game, second only to Eric Dickerson (28) in school history.

Quarterback Garrett Gilbert was 25 of 51 for 275 yards.  Jeremy Johnson led the receivers with 11 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown.  Johnson is the first SMU receiver with 10 or more catches in a game since Cole Beasley in 2011.

The Mustangs (2-4) will have a short turnaround before hosting Houston on Thursday at Gerald J Ford Stadium for a C-USA matchup.
