SMU M-Tennis Downs UT Arlington 5-2

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team defeated cross-town foe UT Arlington 5-2 on Thursday at Turpin Tennis Center. With the win, the team has won 12 of its past 13 matches and is now 15-6 on the season.

The Mustangs opened the match with a sweep of doubles action. Joseph Hattrup and Tobias Flood combined to down David Subirats and Mindaugas Celedinas 8-4, while Darren Walsh and Gaston Cuadranti beat the duo of Brieuc Hamon and Lucas Leppin by the same score. Robert Sajovich and Adham el-Effendi completed the sweep with an 8-7 victory over Yauheni Yakauleu and Nicolas Moreno. SMU has earned the doubles point in each of the past eight matches.

In singles play, Cuadranti rolled past Leppin 6-2, 6-3. Sajovich had a strong performance as he defeated Erik Hjertonsson 6-2, 6-4. Flood and Hattrup also picked up points for the Mustangs as they beat Jason Lateko 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Hamon 6-3, 7-5, respectively.

David Costa fell to Celedinas 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 position. Yakauleu won by retirement 7-6, 3-1 over el-Effendi.

The Mustangs host UC Santa Barbara in the final home match of the season on Sunday at noon at Turpin Tennis Center.
