SMU M-Tennis Edges UC Santa Barbara 4-3

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Santa Barbara on Sunday at Turpin Tennis Center. With the win, the team has won 13 of its past 14 matches and is now 16-6 on the season.

The Mustangs opened the match by earning the doubles point for the ninth consecutive match. Robert Sajovich and Adham el-Effendi combined to beat Matt Forget and Philip Therp 8-4, while Darren Walsh and Gaston Cuadranti downed the duo of Benjamin Recknagel and Evan Jurgensen 8-6. Joseph Hattrup and Tobias Flood fell 8-6 to Taylor Chavez Goggin and Alexander Konigsfeldt.

The teams split singles play, with each squad winning three matches. The Mustangs dominated their wins as el-Effendi beat Forget 6-3, 6-4, Mischa Nowicki defeated Goggin 6-4, 6-3, and Flood downed Therp 6-2, 6-1. David Costa lost to Recknagel 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 1 spot. Cuadranti suffered a loss as he was defeated by Konigsfeldt 3-6, 7-5, 10-1. Max Glenn picked up a 6-4, 2-0 win by retirement over Sajovich.

SMU heads to Ft. Worth, Texas, to take on archrival TCU Wednesday at 6 p.m.
