SMU M-Tennis Makes It 10 Straight, Beats Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team extended its win streak to 10 matches with a 6-1 victory at Oklahoma State on Tuesday. With the win, the Mustangs move to 13-5 on the season.

SMU opened the match by earning the doubles point. Artem Baradach and Gaston Cuadranti paired up to defeat the No. 13 duo of Aleksey Bessonov and Rifat Biktyakov 8-6 in the No. 1 spot. Adham el-Effendi and Robert Sajovich combined to down Vlad Bondareko and Tomas Patino 8-5. Tobias Flood and Joseph Hattrup fell to Maniel Bains and Eric West 8-6.

In singles play, Cuadranti was second off the courts with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Biktyakov.

No. 38 Baradach third to finish as he defeated No. 110 Bains in an impressive 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 1 position. With the victory, Baradach is now 9-2 on the year and 8-2 in the top spot.

The Mustangs also picked up wins from el-Effendi, Mischa Nowicki and Sajovich. el-Effendi finished fourth, defeating West 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), to clinch the win SMU. Nowicki downed Bessnov 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-7), while Sajovich also went to the tie breaker in his 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) win over Ilija Martinoski.

David Costa retired due to injury against Bondarenko.

SMU returns to the courts March 29 as the Mustangs host San Diego State at Turpin Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
