SMU Men’s Tennis extends win streak to nine

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team picked up its ninth consecutive win with a 5-2 victory over conference rival Tulane on Sunday at Turpin Tennis Center. With the win, the Mustangs move to 12-5 on the season.

SMU opened the match by earning the doubles point. Robert Sajovich and Adham el-Effendi combined to defeat the duo of Takuma Ohashi and Adam Bernstein 8-1, while Mischa Nowicki and Gaston Cuadranti downed the pairing of Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli 8-5. Joseph Hattrup and Tobias Flood fell to Ian Mark and Joe Young 8-5.

In singles play, the Mustangs received dominating performances by Cuadranti, el-Effendi and Nowicki, who each earned wins in straight sets. Cuadranti defeated Young 6-1, 7-6 in the No. 2 spot. el-Effendi downed Ohashi 6-3, 6-3, and Nowicki beat Wali 7-5, 6-3. Sajovich also picked up a point for the Mustangs with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win over Rappaccioli.

David Costa lost to Mark 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 position, while Bryan Griffin lost 6-7, 6-1, 10-0 to Bernstein.

SMU plays Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
