SMU performance at the J.D. Martin Invitational track meet

NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) — Led by strong performances in the distance and throws, the SMU track team had a successful showing at the J.D. Martin Invitational this weekend.

Mustang distance runners, Silje Fjortoft and Klara Bodinson, finished in the top two spots in the one mile run. The all-american Fjortoft won the race with a 4:56.66 time. Bodinson followed closely behind, finishing in 4:59.85. In the 3000 meter run, Monika Korra (10:39.31) and Stephanie Wright (11:29.40) placed first and second respectively.

Ayla Gill won the weight throw with a 18.30 meter toss, which bested the competition by over a half meter. Simone Du Toit, last week’s Conference USA co-Athlete of the Week, narrowly lost in the shot put. The junior had a 17.31 meters throw, but barely lost out to Karen Shump’s (Oklahoma) 17.34 winning toss.

The Mustangs travel to Ames, Iowa next weekend to participate in the three-day Bill Bergan Invitational. For results and recaps, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
