SMU Players To Participate in 2023 Dallas Open

DALLAS (December 8, 2022) – The Dallas Open today announced that SMU junior tennis player Liam Krall has been awarded a singles main draw wildcard to compete in the 2023 Dallas Open on the ATP Tour. In addition, the tournament announced that SMU seniors Hadley Doyle and Jackie Nylander will play in the inaugural Women’s Tennis Classic, which will open the second-year Dallas Open on Saturday evening, February 4, 2023. The 2023 Dallas Open is scheduled to be played February 5-12 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex at SMU.

Krall will headline the Dallas Open’s “College Night” on Tuesday, Feb. 7. This will be his second competition at the ATP level, as he earned a qualifying wildcard singles spot at last year’s Dallas Open (dropping a competitive match to Jurij Rodionov [7-6(1), 6-3]).

“We are proud to award Liam Krall with a wildcard to compete in the singles main draw at the 2023 Dallas Open,” said Peter Lebedevs, Dallas Open tournament director. “Liam has done a terrific job for the Mustangs the past two seasons and displayed some high-level tennis at last year’s Dallas Open in the singles qualifying. He demonstrates tremendous values and has worn his heart on his sleeve at SMU, and we know he will continue to flourish before taking the next step to the pro level. We look forward to watching Liam play on the big stage again on his home court in front of a full house right here on The Hilltop.”

Krall has been an impact player for the Mustangs since his arrival at SMU. He concluded his first season with a 16-9 overall singles record which included a 5-0 record playing at No.1. He was awarded American Athletic Conference 2021 Freshman of the Year. Krall’s sophomore season had similar success, finishing with a 26-7 overall record and awarded singles All-Conference team. During the Mustangs’ run in the AAC Championship, Krall was named the AAC Championships’ Most Outstanding Player, winning all three of his matches and clinching two of SMU’s victories (semifinal win over USF and final win over Memphis).

“It’s an incredible honor and privilege to be able to revive the wildcard, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to play,” said Bronxville native Liam Krall. “I hope to do my best and can’t wait to play in front of friends and family in February. I can’t be more thankful to all the people who could make this happen!”
