SMU Rolls Over East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Horace Richardson returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns and SMU beat East Carolina 54-31 on Saturday.

Richardson’s 70-yard return put the Mustangs in front 31-17 in the second quarter and his 80-yarder in the third made it 45-24.

The picks were the fifth and sixth for Richardson, and with Darrion Millines making his fifth, the Mustangs have 17 this season. SMU came in tied for third nationally in that category and has interceptions in eight of its 10 games.

The Mustangs (5-5, 3-3 American) have their most wins since 2013 after rolling up 477 yards offense. Ben Hicksthrew for 235 yards and three touchdowns, Courtland Sutton had 12 catches for 166 yards, both career highs, plus two touchdowns, Ke’Mon Freeman rushed for 111 yards and a score and Braeden West added 105 on the ground.

Zay Jones made 12 catches for 173 yards a score for the Pirates (3-7, 1-5), who had 466 yards offense but also five turnovers.
