SMU Romps Against Stephen F Austin

The SMU Mustangs rebounded from their loss at Baylor to win their home opener against Stephen F. Austin 52-0.

The Mustangs defense took advantage of 10 SFA turnovers to post their first home shutout since 1983.  SMU grabbed 6 interceptions in the game, one returned for a touchdown by Kenneth Acker, who also scored on a blocked field goal return.

Defensive end Margus Hunt set an NCAA record with his 9th blocked FG in the first quarter.  Hunt is 3rd in the NCAA with 15 total blocks (9 FG, 6 PAT).

Aaron Davis also blocked a field goal, which led to the Acker touchdown return to end the 1st half.

Linebacker Ja’Gared Davis forced a fumble, had 1 sack, 9 total tackles, and returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown.

Safety Ryan Smith had 2 interceptions and forced a fumble.  Jay Scott intercepted

one pass and recovered a fumble.

Running back Zach Line scored 2 touchdowns as part of his 60 yards rushing.  Line added 39 receiving yards.

Garret Gilbert was 19 of 36 passing for the Mustangs for 205 yards and a touchdown.  Receiver Keenan Holman grabbed 5 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.  

SMU has won 6 of the last 7 home games, but will be tested in the next two weeks as they face Texas A&M and TCU in back-to-back games.
