SMU Rowing Posts Season-Best Times At San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (SMU) – The SMU rowing team posted its fastest times of the season at the San Diego Crew Classic this weekend. The Mustangs, who advanced to the championship round of the Oklahoma Invitational in the first event of the season just three weeks ago, have continued to gain speed in each competition.

The 1st Varsity 8+ opened the event on Saturday morning, knocking off future Big East Conference foe Villanova with a time of 7:08.95. The Mustangs were just seconds behind race winner Oklahoma, who defeated SMU in the final at the Oklahoma Invitational.

The crew was even faster in its second race of the event, closing out the competition with a season-best 7:08.80. The 2nd Varsity 8+ team also posted a season-best in San Diego, finishing in 7:36.63, while Stanford won the heat.

SMU will compete against Tulsa on April 21 in Catoosa, Okla., before racing in the Conference USA Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on May 12.
