DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 14 SMU men’s soccer team has clinched the Conference USA regular season title. The Mustangs are 6-1 in C-USA with one game remaining and 10-3-3 overall. SMU is the No. 1 seed for the Conference USA Championship, played Nov. 7-11 in Birmingham, Ala., and will have a first-round bye.

“We are extremely proud of the players and coaches for winning the Conference USA regular season title,” head coach Tim McClements said. “One of our major goals at the start of the season was to win the conference, and we are proud to secure the title with a game in hand. We have a young team, but we have great senior leadership; the players have done a great job. We still have a game left to play and are focused on our match tomorrow night against Memphis on the Fox Soccer Channel.”

The Mustangs are led by junior goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra and sophomore forward Tyler Engel. Ibarra has posted six shutouts this season, boasts an 85.9 save percentage (6th NCAA) and holds a 0.83 goals against average (32nd NCAA). Engel leads the team in points (22), goals (8), assists (6) and game-winning goals (5).

SMU closes out the regular season at Memphis at 7 p.m. on Friday. The game will be televised on the FOX Soccer channel. Dallas listings are as follows: DirecTV – 619, Dish Network – 406, AT&T U-verse – 654/1654 (HD) and Verizon FIOS – 84/584 (HD).
