SMU Soccer Tops Dartmouth
|HANOVER, N.H. (SMU) – The SMU men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 2-1 defeat of Dartmouth on Friday night. Sophomores Andrew Morales and Tyler Engel scored for the Mustangs. With the win, SMU moves to 1-2-1 on the season.
“We’re very happy that we got the win on the road against a very difficult and disciplined Dartmouth team,” head coach Tim McClements said. “They’ve made the NCAA tournament each of the past four years and are a solid team. It was a difficult environment; the crowd was packed and was really into the game. We went down a goal but being able to battle back on the road is a good feeling.”
After a scoreless first half, Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alex Adelabu in the 53rd minute.
Morales evened the score with his tally in the 63 minute. Engel slotted a through ball into to the box for Morales who shot the ball over the keeper. The goal was his first as a Mustang.
Dartmouth’s Colin Heffron received a red card in the 70th minute after taking down Engel in the box, awarding a penalty kick to SMU. Engel converted the opportunity, giving SMU a 2-1 lead and a man advantage. The goal was Engel’s first of the season.
SMU plays at Harvard on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
