SMU Soccer Wins SMU Classic

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s soccer team defeated UC Davis, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field to win the SMU Classic Presented by Jason’s Deli. Sophomore Aaron Simmons scored the game-winner for the Mustangs. With the win, SMU improves to 4-2-1 on the season.

Simmons scored his first goal of the season after SMU was awarded a free kick from 21 yards out. Sophomore Andrew Morales took the kick, finding Simmons in the box who headed the ball home with 1:24 left in regulation.

Goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra was named MVP of the SMU Classic after posting two shutouts. Ibarra make three saves on the afternoon to earn his second consecutive clean sheet. Simmons, midfielder T.J. Nelson and defender Damian Rosales were also named to the All-Tournament team.

SMU hosts CSU-Bakersfield on Thursday at Westcott Field at 7 p.m.
